The Manage fields interface allows users to configure and oversee data fields related to vessels. These fields are essential for maintaining consistent, structured, and meaningful vessel information across your organization.
NOTE: some fields have a special purpose in Ankeri and may therefore be restricted from being edited or removed. Please contact support@ankeri.net if you need any modification to restricted fields.
Add or create new field
The Add field interface allows users to quickly add predefined fields from a list of available options. Each field must be assigned to a specific category using a dropdown before being added with a single click.
When creating new fields, administrators are encouraged to check if a similar field has already been defined as master field in Ankeri and use that as a template for the new field. Using an existing master field simplifies internal mapping and future use the the field.
If the desired field is not available in the predefined list, users can create a new field by entering details such as title, unit, description, category, value type, and access controls in the Create new field form.
When a new field is created the same fields apply as when editing fields as shown below.
Field card
Each field card represents a configurable data element associated with vessel information.
The card includes action buttons for editing the field’s configuration, as well as a dropdown menu offering options to export the data to Excel, archive/hide the field without removing underlying data, or permanently remove it from Ankeri.
Edit field
The Edit field interface provides a configuration panel for customizing data fields within Ankeri. It allows users to define the field's title, unit of measurement, description, category, and data type.
Access and visibility controls enable administrators to restrict editing rights, hide the field from shared views, limit export permissions, or mark the field as required. Conditional display rules can also be applied, making the field appear only when specific conditions are met. This interface ensures granular control over data input, validation, and access for enhanced data integrity and user experience.
When adding a new field, there is some basic information that must be given
- Title - name of the field as displayed to users working with the ship profile where the field is visible. Required field.
- Unit - select the appropriate unit based on the field type. The Unit dropdown is searchable among available units while new/custom units can also be added. Optional field.
- Description - description of each field is used on various locations on Ankeri to provide better information to the user about the content of each field. Required field.
- Category - each field must be added to one of the available categories. Required field. New category can be created from Categories
-
Value type - the field can be set up to accept one of the following value types. Required field.
- Numeric: Numbers can either be of type integer (number without a fractional component, decimals) or float (number with a fractional component). Numeric fields can, but do not have to, be limited to certain range. Numeric values can not be negative and are marked invalid if they include a thousand separator.
- Text: Normal text based values with a limit of 200 characters.
- Yes/No: Yes/No values are represented with buttons, giving the user option to select Yes or No answers. Display of other fields can be limited/conditioned by the answers of this type of field (see advanced settings).
-
Dropdown: Dropdown with options provided, where the options are ordered in alphabetical order. Dropdown also provides two mutually exclusive options:
- Allow custom entries: allows the user to insert custom value in addition to the options provided
- Allow multiple enties: allows the user to select one or more options from the options provided
- Alphanumeric: Only letters a-z and/or numbers without all other characters or spaces.
- Country: Automatic completion and validation of the countries in the world.
- Email: Valid Email address structure.
- Date (datepicker): Datepicker provided to select a correct format of specific date.
- Document: Dropdown showing all files that have been uploaded for the given ship profile. Only one file can be selected.
- Access and display - limit the editability of the field to one or more user groups. Note that user will always require edit rights in addition to the above restrictions.
- Hide this field from shared ship profiles - all fields are by default shared when ship profiles are shared. Set this to No if the field should not be shared.
- Make this a required field? - If yes, the field will be marked as required.
- Limit who can print and export this field? - If yes, only users with Full export rights will be allowed to export and print this field
- Limit display of this field and only show if - Field display will be limited to yes or no conditions of the field selected in the dropdown, i.e. the field will only be shown if the dropdown field is either yes or no.
While the value types shown above are used to validate manual inputs for ship profiles, all data types are accepted during update from automatic data sources.
New fields are not placed in a specific order and must be reordered from Change order of fields. New fields are added to all existing ships and will be added to all future ships created.
Remove field
Note that this action is permanent and cannot be reversed.
Fields can be deleted from Ankeri. Once the button has been clicked, user gets a warning with the number of ships affected.
To permanently delete the filed, the user must press the Delete field button.
Other options
-
Export to Excel: Exports field values along with the ship’s IMO number and name, useful for reviewing data before deciding to archive or delete a field.
-
Archive field: Hides the field from ship profiles but retains it in Ankeri for reference or future use. Can be restored if needed.
